Resumen
La mortalidad de fauna por atropellamiento en carreteras (WVC) constituye una de las principales amenazas para numerosas especies silvestres, particularmente en regiones con alta biodiversidad. En este estudio se evaluaron los patrones taxonómicos, temporales y espaciales de atropellos a lo largo de un tramo carretero en Nayarit, México. Durante el periodo de muestreo se registraron 260 individuos, de los cuales el 88 % se identificó a nivel de especie, representando 19 especies de vertebrados silvestres y tres domésticas. Didelphis virginiana fue la especie más frecuentemente atropellada. La tasa general de mortalidad fue de 0.045 atropellos/día/km, con los anfibios presentando la tasa más elevada. Se identificaron diferencias temporales significativas, particularmente un aumento de atropellos de anfibios y reptiles durante la temporada de lluvias. El análisis espacial reveló agregaciones significativas de mortalidad para anfibios y animales domésticos, indicando la presencia de tramos críticos. Estos hallazgos demuestran que la mortalidad por carreteras responde a patrones no aleatorios asociados a procesos ecológicos y factores antrópicos, y destacan la necesidad de implementar medidas de mitigación focalizadas espacial y temporalmente para reducir el impacto del tráfico vehicular sobre la biodiversidad regional.
